Acupuncture at an unmatched value

A new patient acupuncture experience includes a 10-30 minute initial exam followed by a 30 or 60 minute acupuncture treatment.

The initial exam consists of a full health history with a physical exam. The exam includes a weight, blood pressure and heart rate check, a radial artery pulse evaluation, tongue, abdominal evaluation & any orthopedic tests needed.

A returning acupuncture experience includes a brief pulse, tongue and abdominal evaluation followed by a 30 or 60 minute acupuncture treatment.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the placement of hair-thin flexible stainless-steel needles throughout the body to balance out the flow of Qi (energy). Needles are placed in specific points along meridians (energy channels) that correlate with specific organs. These needles help to remove blockages of Qi & regulate the disharmony of yin and yang in the body.  This helps to improve circulation, decrease pain and remove myofascial muscle tension.

What does acupuncture feel like?

The small size of the needles allows for painless insertion on most of the acupuncture points. Some points you may feel an aching sensation, this is de qi, energy or blood flow coming to the needle. This generally goes away in a few seconds or a minute. It is common to feel a tingling or electric sensation along the acupuncture channels while getting needles placed. This is the energy and blood flow moving through your body. This should be a relaxing feeling and leave you recharged mentally and physically.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Yes. Acupuncture is safe and effective for many health conditions. Acupuncture has been in use for thousands of years. Acupuncturists are required to undergo extensive education in medical school. Licensed acupuncturist must pass state and national board licensing exams. Our doctors are trained in clean needle technique and by law, use pre-sterilized, disposable, single use needles to ensure complete safety for every patient.

Qi ("chee") What is it? How does it travel? What affects it?

At the core of Chinese Medicine is the philosophy that Qi, life force or vital energy, circulates throughout specific pathways in the body called meridians. When qi is blocked, pain and disease will manifest. “Where there’s stagnation, there will be pain. Remove the stagnation, and you remove the pain.” The old Chinese medical maxim holds that pain results from the congestion, stagnation, and blockage of Qi, or vital energy, vital fluids, lymph, phlegm, and blood. If pain is the essence of disease, then suffering is a result of obstructed or irregular flow of energy or blood in the body. Acupuncture is therefore a method of breaking up the blockage to restore the body’s natural flow of energy. Everything we do affects our flow of qi; including our environment, emotions, stress, exercise, foods we consume, alcohol, caffeine, drugs, medications and herbs.

What can Acupuncture Treat?

Acupuncture works by activating the body’s innate healing powers, so it can be beneficial for many health conditions. The World Health Organization (WHO) has documented many symptoms, diseases and conditions that have been shown in controlled clinical trials to be effectively treated with acupuncture. Acupuncture has been shown effective for sports injuries, muscle and nerve pain, respiratory and digestive issues, mental and emotional disorders, fertility, and skin conditions.
